Attending the event were National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan,Minister of Public Security General To Lam, and Deputy Prime Minister TrinhDinh Dung, among others.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy PM Dung praised Hai Duong province and itscity for making great achievements over the past few years.
He urged the city and the province to continue making efforts to fulfill alltheir set socio-economic development targets, especially speeding up economicrestructuring, improving urban infrastructure, and boosting administrativereform.
Becoming a first-tier city is an important milestone for Hai Duong city, Dungsaid, stressing that the city must try its best to become a smart, modern and culturalurban area and a livable city.
Hai Duong city was established in 1998 and recognised as a second-tier city in2009. Its economy has continuously grown year on year, reaching 13-15 percent onaverage. The city posted an annual export expansion of 15 percent, higher thanthe province’s average.
After the ceremony, the traditional Eastern Land Cultural Festival took place,featuring stage and street art performances and parades along several streetsin Hai Duong city./.
