Hai Duong province’s Chi Linh township becomes city

Hai Duong (VNA) – Aceremony was held in the Red River Delta province of Hai Duong on April 20 eveningto announce the National Assembly (NA)’s Resolution on the establishment of ChiLinh city based on the township of the same name.

The ceremony saw the attendanceof NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, ChiefJudge of the Supreme People’s Court Nguyen Hoa Binh, Minister of Finance DinhTien Dung, among other officials.

Chi Linh, located on the Hanoi-HaiPhong-Quang Ninh economic triangle, spans over 282.9 km2 and has a total populationof 220,421. The city houses 15 ethnic groups.

It is home to the national specialrelic site Con Son-Kiep Bac, a defence line built at the end of the 14thcentury to protect the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. It witnessed importantbattles between the Tran Dynasty army and the Yuan-Mongol invaders in the 14thand 15th centuries.

Industry and trade-servicecurrently make up over 57 and 32 percent of the local economy, respectively, whilethe proportion of agriculture has been reduced to just above 10 percent. ChiLinh’s per capital income exceeded 75 million VND (3,230 USD) in 2018, higherthan the average levels of Hai Duong and Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony,Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincialPeople’s Council Nguyen Manh Hien recommended the city to continue its effortsto expand urban space, invest in technical and social infrastructure, protectthe environment, and boost tourism infrastructure in making the city a hub ofspiritual, eco, and resort tourism.

He asked Chi Linh to focus oneducational reform and human capacity building to create a long-term drivingforce for its sustainable growth.-VNA
