Hanoi started quarantining all people returning from pandemic-hit areas in dedicated facilities from July 22 as an effort to control the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh’s latest dispatch.

The dispatch noted that in the past few days, there werestill people who failed to follow pandemic prevention and control measures and largegatherings occurred in some places. Every day, thousands of people from otherlocalities return to the city, carrying the risk of infection in the community.
The city leader asked local authorities to strengthen surveillancein the community, and closely manage and supervise those returning from otherprovinces and cities to minimise the risk of transmission from pandemic-hitareas.
The Centres for Disease Control, medical examination andtreatment facilities, and health centres of districts and towns in the city wereurged to quickly take samples for testing for all cases with symptoms such ascough, fever and breathing shortness.
The Hanoi Department of Health should plan to ensuresufficient quarantine sites for 30,000 and 50,000 people, with priority givento outlying districts.

Meanwhile, localities continue to welcome citizens back fromHo Chi Minh City and southern provinces who will be put under concentratedquarantine upon arrival. Bamboo Airways has announced to provide free flightsto serve passengers wishing to return home./.
Five national COVID-19 intensive care units (ICUs) will be set up in hospitals in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the central province of Thua Thien-Hue under a project discussed at a meeting in Hanoi on July 21.
