Hanoi announces results of confidence vote

For the second year running, Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Council Ngo Thi Doan Thanh has received the highest vote of confidence in a poll covering leading positions in the capital city.
For the second year running, Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's CouncilNgo Thi Doan Thanh has received the highest vote of confidence in apoll covering leading positions in the capital city.

Inresults released on December 3, she won 84 high trust votes (89.36percent) in the vote for senior People's Council and People's Committeeofficials.

In only the second such vote, People's Councilmembers expressed "high confidence", "confidence" or "low confidence" inpeople occupying 15 key positions: five members of the People's Council(Chairman, Vice Chairman, Standing Committee member and heads ofdepartments) and 10 members of the People's Committee (Chairman, fourVice Chairpersons and five key members of the People's Committee).

Thanhwas followed by Director of Hanoi Police Department Nguyen Duc Chungand Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen The Thao, whodoubles as Deputy Secretary of the city’s Party Committee, with 72 and67 high trust votes, respectively.

She was the only official who got no low trust vote.

Headof the Culture and Society Bureau of the People's Council Nguyen ThiThuy received the lowest confidence vote with 35 high trust votes.

The Hanoi People's Council passed a resolution confirming the results of the confidence vote.

HanoiParty Committee Secretary Pham Quang Nghi said organising a confidencevote for key officials was a challenge but also an opportunity to helpthe leaders realise their personal credit rating and understand theirresponsibilities better.

Nguyen Tung Lam, a deputy fromDong Da district, said the vote of confidence would help to reflectobjectively the professionalism and management capacities of publicofficials.

Officials who have obtained low trust votes should try harder to meet voters' expectations, he said.-VNA
