Hanoi (VNA) – The Hanoi government always supportsand creates favourable conditions for heritage conservation activities, affirmedChairman of the municipal People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh while hosting areception for visiting Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre LazareEloundou Assomo on March 27.

Such conservation is among important goals of the capital tofoster traditional and cultural value and pass on patriotism to the nextgenerations, Thanh notes.

The leader said he hopes the city and the centre soon set upcooperation targets for mutual development in the time to come.

Highlighting the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, notably itsKinh Thien Palace relic, as a key site in the local conservation plan, theofficial told his guest that Hanoi is very cautious and respects the commentsand recommendations from experts in the field, especially those at the UNESCO andits World Heritage Center.

In response, Assomo affirmed that based on the municipalauthorities’ attention and facilitation, UNESCO will accompany Vietnam ingeneral and Hanoi in particular in preserving and promoting cultural heritagesvia further assistance and collaboration in the near future.

First constructed in 1011 under the reign of King Ly Thai Toof the Ly dynasty, the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long is a complex of historicimperial buildings located in the centre of Hanoi. Its Central Sector, wherethe Kinh Thien Palace is situated, was inscribed on the World Heritage List byUNESCO’s World Heritage Committee in 2010./.
