Hanoi (VNA) – Standing Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Le Hong Son on April 12 hada meeting with Beaudet Stephane, Vice President of theIle de France region of France, who showed hope to foster collaboration with theVietnamese capital in circular economy and areas of the French region’sstrengths.
Stephane, who is in Hanoi for the 12thVietnam-France decentralisation conference slated for April 13-16, said thatthe event provides great chances for the two localities to discuss and expand partnershipin the fields of shared interest.
For his part, Son said that the conferenceis an important milestone in the locality-to-locality collaboration between thetwo countries, opening up opportunities for extensive partnership among thelocalities across all fields, especially in heritage protection and culturalpreservation and promotion.
He said that Hanoi is exerting efforts to have theCapital Law amended to better meet the demands in legal mechanisms and policies for thecapital city’s promotion of its role and advantages as a locomotive of thenorthern region.
Along with turning Hanoi into a moderncity, the capital has also focused on preserving and promoting traditionalvalues and dealing with challenges in urban traffic and environmental pollution, hesaid, expressing his hope to maintain and enhance the sound partnership with Ile-de-Franceregion, while expanding bilateral cooperation to potential and urgent areas.
Stephane said that the French region andHanoi face similar issues, and local authorities are working to make changes toregional planning. The official stressed that there are plenty of rooms for the two sidesto further bolster their cooperation.
Cooperation between the two sides datesback to 1989. It is the first decentralised cooperation agreement signedbetween France and Vietnam and one of the Ile-de-France region's oldestinternational partnerships.
In February 2022,Hanoi and the Ile-de-France region signed cooperation plans for the period2022-2025, focusing on planning and urban management, the French region'sstrengths. In June 2018, a joint action plan was signed for the period2018-2021, involving new cooperation projects with the capital of Vietnam inthe field of innovation and research.
The Ile-de-France region also supported the inscription of the Hanoi Citadel on the UNESCO WorldHeritage List./.
President of Ile-de-France region Valérie Pécresse said cooperation between her region and Hanoi is the model for other Vietnamese and French localities to follow at talks with Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung in Hanoi on July 16.
Hanoi and France’s Ile-de-France region have signed a joint action programme for 2022 – 2025 at a virtual meeting of their joint committee for bilateral cooperation.
The People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem district in Hanoi coordinated with authorities of France’s Ile-de-France region held a ceremony on April 27 to start a project conserving a French-era villa at No. 49 Tran Hung Dao Street – No 46 Hang Bai Street.
