Hanoi (VNA) – Chairman of the People’s Committeeof Hanoi Nguyen Duc Chung and a municipal delegation paid a pre-Tet visit tothe Hanoi Centre for Disabled Children Adoption on January 30.

He recognised the achievements that the centre has made overthe years and noted the difficulties that it has faced in infrastructureconditions.

Over the past 41 years, the centre has been degradedseriously, affecting the living conditions of the children as well as workingconditions of its staff.

At the visit, Chung assigned the Department of Labour,Invalids and Social Affairs to build and submit a plan to upgrade the centre,while reviewing the number of people with disabilities who are unable tointegrate into society, thus working out measures to enable them to be learningnecessary skills at the centre.

He asked the department to finalise the plan in the firstquarter of 2019, so that the city People’s Committee can submit it to themunicipal Party Committee and People’s Council for approval, helping disabledpeople to access knowledge and skills to integrate into society.

The centre, previously known as an academic and vocationalschool for dumb and deaf people, was set up on April 10, 1978, aiming to givenursing, rehabilitation services as well as academic and vocational training todisabled children in Hanoi.

Currently, the centre is home to 136 children, mostly dumb,deaf and mentally-disabled children.

According to the Hanoi Department of Labour, Invalids, andSocial Affairs, as of January 30, Hanoi has presented over 1.2 million Tet(Lunar New Year) gifts worth 477 billion VND to Vietnam Heroic Mothers,intellectuals, policy beneficiaries, workers, outstanding locals, and poorpeople in the city.-VNA
