Hanoi (VNA)ꦆ – Hanoi will focus on urban planning, construction and management, and new rural building, along with resources management and environmental protection in the next five years.

These were among tasks outlined in the city’s socio-economic development plan for 2016-2020 which was passed by the 15 th municipal People’s Council during its second session on August 3. At the same time, the capital will push forwards the knowledge-based economy and growth model reform in tandem with economic restructuring.
The plan also targets the fundamental and comprehensive educational reform, along with scientific, technological, cultural and social development. Other tasks span social welfare, people’s living standards, national defence and security, administrative reform, investment climate improvement and human resources. Under the plan, Hanoi aims to raise its gross regional domestic product (GRDP) by 8.5- 9 percent on average. The service sector will dominate the local economic structure with 67-67.5 percent, followed by industry-construction and agriculture.
Public transport is expected to account for 20-25 percent of the capital’s total transportation market share. Between 95-100 percent of waste in urban areas, and 90-95 percent of rural waste will be collected and treated in line with environmental standards. The plan also sets forth several 100 percent targets concerning centralised wastewater treatment systems at industrial and processing zones, and industrial clusters; the treatment of hazardous and medical waste; and safe water supply. At the session, the council voted to pass a resolution on naming and adjusting the length of several roads, streets and public facilities in the city in 2016, and another resolution on the local power development planning for 2016-2025.-VNA
