HCM City backs reopening of Czech Consulate General

HCM City (VNA) – Ho ChiMinh City will create the best conditions for the Czech Republic to sooninaugurate its Consulate General in the city, said Vice Chairman of themunicipal People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem.

Liem made the confirmation at ameeting with visiting Czech Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade VladimirBartl on April 13.

The official expressed hisdelight at the fruitful development of Vietnam-Czech Republic relations, whichwas reflected through the signing of several framework cooperation agreementson economy, investment, diplomacy, culture, and education.

An inter-governmental committee forscientific and technological cooperation set up between the two nations is aneffective mechanism to facilitate and implement bilateral cooperation contents,Liem added.

He affirmed that HCM City wantsto step up cooperative relations with the European country in line with bothsides’ potential and demand, adding that it plans to work with Czech partnersto further foster trade and investment ties in the coming time.

For his part, Bartl said thatbased on the traditional friendship with Vietnam, the Czech Republic expects toenhance partnerships between Czech and Vietnamese localities, including Ho ChiMinh City.

The minister said the CzechRepublic wants to reopen its Consulate General in the southern largest economichub of Vietnam to meet increasing demand of Czech businesses interested in thelocal market, and to spur collaboration in economy, tourism, and culture.

Informing his host on theoutcomes of the Vietnam-Czech Republic business seminar held in the city thesame day, Bartl asked the municipal authorities to create favourable conditionsfor Czech firms to implement their projects in the city, particularly in ITsolutions, urban transport infrastructure construction, and food.

He also affirmed that the CzechRepublic is committed to supporting Ho Chi Minh City in building wastewatersystems, preventing floods and protecting the environment.-VNA
