HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City wants to boost its cooperationand friendship with Japan’s Kagoshima city, especially in areas of both sides’strength and potential.
The affirmation was made by Permanent Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s CommitteeLe Thanh Liem at a reception for visiting Mayor of Kagoshima city Hiroyuki Morion November 19.
Liem said that the successive visits of the Governor of Kagoshima prefecture andthe Major of Kagoshima city to HCM City reflected the Japanese side’s interestand goodwill to boost cooperation with Vietnam’s southern hub.
HCM City wishes to continue promoting exchange and cooperation activities betweenKagoshima city and HCM City in particular and between Japanese and Vietnameselocalities in general, he said.
Speaking highly of the Japanese city’s tourism potential and hi-tech agriculturaldevelopment, the municipal official expressed his hope that Kagoshima city willfurther enhance collaboration with Vietnam, including HCM City, in such areasas trade, investment, culture, education and people-to-people exchange.
He suggested the Japanese city step up coordination with HCM City to seek acommon voice in their cooperation, especially in fields of Kagoshima’s strengthsuch as agricultural production, farm produce and food processing.
For his part, Mori said he is impressed by the strong and dynamic development ofVietnam and HCM City in particular. He affirmed his city wishes to fosteraffiliation in culture, economy and people-to-people exchange with SoutheastAsian nations, especially Vietnam, with HCM City as its socio-economic centre.
The mayor said over the past years, the relationship between Kagoshima city andVietnam has been developing as around 500 Vietnamese people are now living andstudying in the Japanese city and the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association’schapter in the city was set up two years ago.
Notably, after the Governor of Kagoshima prefecture’s visit to HCM City, twobusinesses from Kagoshima have invested in the Vietnamese city and theirprojects have proven effective, he said, stressing this shows huge potential forcooperation between the two sides in the future.
