HCM City (VNA) –Thousands of people participated in the “Red S🌺unday”, a voluntary blood donation progamme, he💞ld in the southern city of Ho Chi Minh on January 3.
Some 1,000 blood units were collected in the morning of the day.
Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Nguyen Anh Tuan said the programme holds a significant meaning in increasing public awareness of sharing precious blood to save patients.
After Ho Chi Minh City, the programme will travel to other provinces and cities across the country.
The “Red Sunday” was first held in 2009. Taking place nationwide on the New Year occasion, the programme has received warm response from the public, especially young people.
The initiative was co-organised by the Tien Phong Newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City Voluntary Blood Donation Centre, Cho Ray Hospital and Van Hien University.-VNA
A blood donation festival was held in Hanoi on July 25 as part of the “Hanh trinh do” (Red Journey) campaign, with a hope of collecting 2,000 units of blood.
The central city of Da Nang received more than 1,200 units of blood (250ml each) from donors on July 18-19 during The Red Journey, a transnational campaign to raise awareness about donating blood.
The blood donation campaign “2015 Red Journey” will travel to 25 provinces and cities across the country from June 25 to August 1, aiming to collect about 17,000 units of blood.
Hundreds of Hanoians in Hai Ba Trung district’s Nguyen Du ward donated blood during a humanitarian event launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion on May 26.
