Hanoi (VNA) - Over the years, the people's right to participate and support in the field of labor and society has improved, further consolidating efforts and achievements in ensuring human rights in Vietnam. This has contributed significantly to Vietnam being elected to become one of 14 members of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the term of 2023-2025.

Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung꧙ said that in the past 10 years, Vietnam has moved toward many important achievements in the development and implementation of social policies. The system of social policies has basically ensured fairness, comprehensiveness, inclusiveness, and mirrors international standards. The policies ensure people’s right to security, contributing to economic development and political stability, social order, improving the people’s material and spiritual life.

In particular, Vietnam’s human development index (HDI) in 2020 has improved in the United Nations’ rankings, from 128/187 in 2011 to 117/187 in 2020. This brings confidence and satisfaction among the people, affirming the superiority of the socialist regime under the leadership of the Party and State.
Appreciating Vietnam’s implementation of social security policies over the past 10 years, Ms. Pauline Tamesis, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam emphasized that Vietnam’s greatest achievement is growing number of people who have benefited from social policies over the years. In addition, Pauline Tamesis said that the revision of the Law on Social Insurance, the Law on Health Insurance and the promulgation of Decree 20 on social assistance will be an important basis for building a vision for Vietnam’s social security in the future.

Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha said that to date, despite adverse impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, Vietnam has completed 82.6% of recommendations with many positive results in terms of ensuring and promoting human rights in the fields of labour, society, gender equality and human trafficking.

Over the past 13 years, Vietnam has shown positive and responsible engagement in the UPR mechanism with a high rate of recommendation acceptance and implementation, reflecting the country’s rising and expanding capacity in institutions, resources and finance.

The implementation of the UPR recommendations has contributed to further enhancing the rights of disadvantaged groups and labourers, improving social welfare and contributing to ensuring political-economic and social stability of the country, as well as the quality of human rights in Vietnam.

🥂 They highlighted difficulties and challenges, and proposed solutions for the better implementation of the recommendations in the time to come, especially the preparations for the building of the national report on the UPR fourth cycle./.

The year-by-year achievements in ensuring social security policies have made an important contribution to helping Vietnam fulfill its international commitments on ensuring human rights. This is especially so in the context that Vietnam is actively campaigning for election to the Human Rights Council for the term 2023-2025.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha said that under the UPR𝔍 In cycle III, Vietnam has implemented 82.6% of the approved recommendations with many outstanding results.

This result is a great effort in the context of the complicated situation in the country and the world. This is certainly the case given the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change affecting all aspects of social life as well as the enjoyment of human rights. As a result, Vietnam has marked many impressive achievements compared to other countries in the region in ensuring and promoting human rights in the fields of labour, society and gender equality, and human trafficking prevention and control./.
