Humanitarian month to include multiple activities

Hanoi (VNA) – Blood donation and organ donation commitment is amongactivities to be held during the humanitarian month which lasts from May 1-31under the theme of “Connecting, Sharing, and Spreading,” heard a pressconference in Hanoi on April 25.

Accordingto the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS), peak dates of the month will be fromMay 8 (International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day) to May 19 (birthday ofPresident Ho Chi Minh, the first Honorary President of the VRCS).

Alaunching ceremony will be held at Ngoc Son Temple, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoion April 11.

Aphoto exhibition on the VRCS’s activities, a ceremony to hand over bikes topoor children with outstanding academic achievements and houses to war veteransin the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, and a walk around Hoan Kiem Lakewill be organised on this occasion.

Firstheld by the VRCS in 2018, the programme aims to call for support to people indifficult circumstances and spread humanitarian activities, thus intensifyingsocial connectivity and consolidating national strength.

TheVRCS aims to assist hundreds of thousands of needy people in the month, itsaid.

Theprogramme has received the enthusiastic response of people, organisations andbusinesses across the country, including the Vietnam Post, the Vietnam MilitaryIndustry and Telecoms (Viettel), Vietnamnet e-newspaper and Vietnam BorderGuard High Command which have carried out various activities to raise fund forneedy people.

TheVRCS has also launched a contest to select best television documentariesfeaturing outstanding humanitarian models and individuals.

Entrieswill be sent the organizer from May 1 to October 10.-VNA
