Hanoi (VNA) – A ceremony commemorating the death anniversary of HungKings, the legendary founders of Vietnam, took place at the Warsaw Buddhismculture centre, Poland, on April 14 with traditional rituals.
Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Poland Vu Dang Dung highlighted the significance of the worshipping rituals of the Hung Kings, recognised as a UNESCO IntangibleCultural Heritage of Humanity.
Apart from introducing international and Polish friends to Vietnam’s finetradition of "When drinking water, remember its sources”, the event helps the young Vietnamese generation living in Poland understand more aboutthe culture of worshipping of the Vietnamese people, thus contributing to strengtheningthe expatriate community’s solidarity towards the homeland.
A similar event was held in Ukraine’s Kharkov province on April 13. Speaking atthe ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Ukraine Nguyen Anh Tuan highly valuedpreparations of the Vietnamese community in Kharkov for the event.
He affirmed the Vietnamese Embassy's support for the Vietnamesecommunity in Ukraine, wishing that they will continue to unite and help eachother while preserving Vietnam’s cultural identity.
While in Bern, Switzerland, the Vietnamese Embassy held a get-together for theVietnamese community on April 14 to mark the death anniversary of Hung Kings.
Ambassador Duong Chi Dung, head of Vietnam’s permanent mission to the UnitedNations in Geneva, and Chairwoman of the Switzerland-Vietnam FriendshipAssociation Anjuska Weil were also present at the event.
In her address, Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Le Linh Lan said themeeting was a great chance for overseas Vietnamese living and studying inSwitzerland to strengthen their bonds while promoting their nationalpatriotism.
She called on the Vietnamese community to further contribute toboosting Vietnam’s development as well as its cooperation with the Europeancountry.
Legend has it that the Hung Kings ruled Vietnam from 2879 BC until 258 BC andthey are widely considered the founders of the nation. To honour the Kings, thetenth day of the third lunar month was designated as their nationalcommemorative anniversary date.
The worshipping rituals of the Hung Kings are closely related to the ancestralworshipping tradition of most Vietnamese families which forms an important partof people's spiritual lives. It was recognised as a UNESCO Intangible CulturalHeritage of Humanity in 2012.-VNA
