Improvements seen in responding to citizen’s correspondence: ombudsman board

Observable improvements have been recorded in responding to citizen’s correspondence sent to the National Assembly (NA) and the Government, according to a report by the ombudsman board of the NA Standing Committee.

Hanoi (VNA) – Observable improvements have beenrecorded in responding to citizen’s correspondence sent to the NationalAssembly (NA) and the Government, according to a report by the ombudsman boardof the NA Standing Committee.

Head of the board Nguyen Thanh Hai on June 4delivered a report on responding to citizen’s correspondence sent to the fourthsession of the 14th-tenure parliament in late 2017.

She said through more than 1,380 meetings withvoters before and after the fourth session, which lasted from late October tolate November last year, NA deputy delegations of the 63 provinces and citiescollected almost 2,100 petitions relating to activities of the NA, theGovernment and judicial agencies. These petitions were sent to agencies, andall of them have made replies to the senders.

Voters lauded reforms in parliamentaryactivities which have taken people’s opinions into account when selectingissues for the NA’s debates and question & answer sessions. They alsorecognised the deputy delegations’ openness and response to petitionspertaining to the parliament’s activities.

All of the 1,993 petitions sent to theGovernment have also been considered and answered. Cabinet agencies haveprovided information in response to about 1,470 petitions while solving 160others by amending legal documents and inspecting and handling violations.Meanwhile, the settlement of about 83 percent of the remaining petitions isexpected to finish in 2018.

This is an improvement in responding tocitizen’s correspondence, Hai noted.

Some deputy delegations praised many ministriesand sectors for taking swift and thorough actions in this work such as theministries of agriculture and rural development, industry and trade andtransport.

Pointing out shortcomings, she asked the NA, itsagencies and lawmakers to improve the quality of legislative and supervisoryactivities, along with ensuring impartiality and democracy in their decision making.

The official also urged the Government toexamine ministries and sectors’ settlement of voters’ opinions, address flawsin this work and soon revise the 101 documents that don’t match the realitypointed out by the public.-VNA
