Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo has said that the country should strive to optimise its geothermal resources which can generate about 24,000 megawatts of electricity.
Speaking at the Indonesia International Geothermal Convention and Exhibition 2024 (IIGCE) in Jakarta on September 18, President Widodo stressed that Indonesia is committed to being an important part of the world's steps in building a green economy, developing green industries, and making the transition to green energy.
However, the country has yet to make the most of its geothermal resources, he said, urging Indonesian ministries and agencies to streamline the processes to obtain permits for constructing a geothermal power plant (PLTP) to fully capitalise on the country's vast geothermal potential. Widodo noted his hope that the IIGCE will create a breakthrough, possibly become a forum for sharing risks, burdens, and profits in equal proportions, allowing for immediate decision making.
IIGCE is an annual event organised by the Indonesian Geothermal Association (API).
