Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has removed more than 1.33 million pieces of online gambling content since October 21 last year.

Alexander Sabar, head of the ministry's digital space monitoring, was quoted by local media as saying that more than 1.2 million items were found on online gambling sites, while the remaining 132,000 were detected on social media platforms.

Indonesia has ramped up its efforts to eliminate online gambling in recent years. The official said the move is aimed at curbing the widespread proliferation of online gambling in the digital space. He stressed that online gambling undermines productivity, devastates household finances, and jeopardises the future of younger generations.

𝓰 According to government data, without timely intervention, the potential financial damage from online gambling could reach around 1,000 trillion IDR (approximately 60 billion USD) by the end of 2025./.
