Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian government is currently constructing a new national data centre (PDN) in Bekasi and will build another two in Batam and Nusantara capital city (IKN), Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Coordinating Minister Hadi Tjahjanto has stated.
He remarked that the new PDNs would be operated by a public service agency under the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.
According to Tjahjanto, the centre in Bekasi is expected to begin operations by 2026. As for the planned PDN in Batam, Riau Islands, the government is currently choosing supervisory consultants. Authorities and oversight bodies are also studying the construction site for another in the new capital, Nusantara.
The National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) is involved in every development phase of the new data centres, he said.
The minister then acknowledged that it would be a challenge for the government to successfully transition from temporary national data centres to the planned permanent ones, considering security risks during the process of data migration. Moreover, it is vital to take every integration step carefully to leave no opportunities for hackers.
He said the government is coordinating with domestic and international partners to ensure that the PDNs are powered by the finest technologies capable of anticipating cyberattacks./.
