Indonesia confirms radioactive contamination cases
The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten) of Indonesia has obtained the test results of nine residents following the finding of radioactive contamination in a vacant land plot in Serpong, South Tangerang city, over 40km in the south of Jakarta.

Jakarta (VNA) – The Nuclear EnergyRegulatory Agency (Bapeten) of Indonesia has obtained the test results of nineresidents following the finding of radioactive contamination in a vacant land plotin Serpong, South Tangerang city, over 40km in the south of Jakarta.
Secretary of the agency Hendrianto Hadi Tjahyonosaid on February 21 that the examination was conducted through Whole BodyCounting to check the level of radioactive exposure.
Seven residents are tested negative for theradioactive contamination, while the other two are exposed to two radioactivesubstances, Cesium 137 and 40K.
However, he said, the contamination level isvery low, and there would be no effect on the body's health. He elaborated thatthe highest dose absorbed in the body is 0.12 millisievert, while the maximumpermissible dose is 1 millisievert.
Earlier, Indonesian authorities requestedresidents to stay away from a plot of land after it had been found to becontaminated with radiation. Anti-radiation and resident protection measureswere also carried out immediately. People with frequent activities in the areawere examined to assess their exposure level./.
