Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian Ministry ofForeign Affairs held an international press conference in Jakarta on January 9to review its work in the past time and announce diplomatic priorities for2019. 

Speaking at the event, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said2019 is a busy year for the country’s diplomacy.

She said this year, the country will focus on activities atthe UN Security Council as a non-permanent member for the 2019-2020 tenure. Indonesiahas officially announced its bid for a seat at the UN Human Rights Council for the2020-2022 tenure.

According to her, economic diplomacy is also a priority,with cooperation with new markets to be boosted in the near future. Infrastructurefor international economic collaboration will be consolidated through thecompletion of negotiations for the comprehensive economic partnership agreements,free trade agreements, and preferential trade agreements.

The minister said Indonesia will also work to enhance itsposition in the region and in the world, with attention paid to maritimecooperation.

Affirmingthe importance of ensuring stability and security in the Indo-Pacific, Retno saidIndonesia and other ASEAN member states should play an active role in responseto strategic developments and changes in the region.-VNA
