Indonesia, Denmark cooperate in wind power

Indonesia and Denmark on May 2 signed an agreement on cooperation in carrying out wind power projects in Indonesia, with the one in Surakarta scheduled for 2018.

Jakarta (VNA) –Indonesia and Denmark on May 2 signed an agreement on cooperation in carryingout wind power projects in Indonesia, with the one in Surakarta scheduled for2018.

The signing was witnessedby Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan andDenmark’s Minister of Development Cooperation Ulla Tørnӕs.

Indonesia has a hugepotential for wind power so that the country’s Ministry of Energy and MineralResources plans to develop wind power plants in 16 locations nationwide.

Indonesia will partnerwith Denmark to implement the projects in Surakarta, Central Java and JenepontoandSIdrap in South Sulawesi.

The country has about800 inhabited islands that need energy sources. Wind power is considered thebest choice for them as energy supplies from the cable network are not suitableand cost-effective.-VNA
