Indonesia earns nearly 900 million USD from coconut exports

Indonesia’s coconut exports in the first eight months of this year reached nearly 900 million USD, while it simultaneously imported commodities worth 8.65 million USD, according to the Indonesia Agriculture Ministry.
Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia’s coconut exports in the first eight monthsof this year reached nearly 900 million USD, while it simultaneously imported commoditiesworth 8.65 million USD, according to the Indonesia Agriculture Ministry.

The number means the country enjoyed a surplus of 891million USD from coconut trade, up 21 percent from 738.2 million USD during thesame period last year.

Suwandi, chief of the ministry’s data center, saidaccording to the global trade map during the 2012-2016 period, Indonesia wasthe world largest coconut exporter after the Philippines, in terms of coconutoil and dried coconut. 

However, he revealed, in terms of unpeeled coconut orits endocarp, Indonesia is the world largest exporter, contributing 59 percentof the total coconut exports.

Over the past eight months, Indonesia mainly shippedabroad coconut oil which contributed 63 percent of the total coconut exports.

The US remained the biggest market for Indonesia’scoconut exports, making up nearly 20 percent of the total value, followed byChina, the Netherlands, Thailand, Malaysia and the Republic of Korea (RoK).-VNA
