Jakarta (VNA) – Cooperation interrorism eradication between Indonesia and Egypt has been further bolsteredthrough the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Counter-terrorismAgency of Indonesia (BNPT) and the Ministry of Interior of Egypt.
The MoU was signed by head of BNPT SuhardiAlius and Minister of Interior Affairs of Egypt Major General Mahmoud Tawfik inCairo, Egypt.
Suhardi explained that the radicalterrorist network in Indonesia is heavily influenced by the development of theglobal terrorist network, especially in the Middle East.
It is unsurprising that Indonesia’s radicalterrorist group joined forces of the self-claimed Islamic States (ISIS), hesaid.
He cautioned that radical groups havechanged their strategy in recruiting supporters of their actions and use thesocial media to recruit, brainwash, propagate, and transfer their ideology, adding that is an easy alternative for radical groups to spread their influencetransnationally.
Suhardi said that the time has come forIndonesia and Egypt to work as a unity in fighting terrorism.
Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Helmy Fauzi saidthat either Indonesia or Egypt can learn from each other’s experience toimprove counter-terrorism efforts considering that terrorism is a transnationalcrime.
