Indonesia has set a target to build a nuclear power plant by 2039 to achieve net zero emissions and increase national energy security, according to the country's Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten).

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia has set a target to build a nuclear powerplant by 2039 to achieve net zero emissions and increase national energysecurity, according to the country's Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency(Bapeten).

The country has to date drafted the regulations on nuclear infrastructuresafety, from preparing the location for the plant to formulating the trialoperation, in which the location will not be in earthquake-prone areas, said Bapeten'sDirector for Nuclear Installation and Material Control Haendra Subekti.

Bapeten will ensure that the construction of the plantaligns with the specified design.

After the construction is completed, there will be trialoperation to see its performance until it operates as expected, he added./.
