Indonesia identifies aircraft crash victims

Indonesia is identifying victims of a C-130B Hercules plane crash in Medan, northern Sumatra province that killed at least 141 people on June 30.

Head of the Disaster Victim Identificationfrom North Sumatra police Setio Purwanto said bodies of the victims aretaken to hospitals and handed over to their relatives.

North Sumatra chief police Gen Sutedjo Eko Hadi said as of July 1afternoon, among the 141 bodies found at the site, 135 have been broughtto Adam Malik and Pirnagdi hospitals in Meda and 34 have beenidentified.

Indonesia deployed 350 police and substantial equipment to address with the post-accident consequences.

Halim Perdana Kusuma air force base sent an air-freighter and two other planes to Medan for search and rescue.

According to Indonesian officials, the accident was likely due to outdated engine and irregular maintenance.-VNA
