Indonesia imposes emergency lockdown, COVID-19 death toll surges in Malaysia

The Indonesian government announced on June 30 that emergency restrictions of community activities will be imposed from July 3 to 20 in a bid to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases to 10,000 per day.

Jakarta (VNA) - The Indonesian government announced on June 30 that emergency restrictions of community activities will be imposed from July 3 to 20 in a bid to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases to 10,000 per day.

꧋ The restrictions will be enforced in 121 districts and wards in Java and Bali. All employees innon-essential sectors must work from home. Shopping malls, mosques and parks must close, while grocery stores,supermarkets, minimarkets, and wet markets can be operational until 8pm at half capacity.

Pharmacies can operate for 24 hours. Publictransport may operate with a maximum of 70 percent capacity, and passengers who wantto travel by plane, bus or train must at least be vaccinated once and presenttheir vaccination card. They must also have a negative PCR test that is taken within two days prior to departure.

Indonesia iscurrently battling a new wave of COVID-19 infections in recent weeks with new cases continuously reaching record levels.

﷽ Malaysiarecorded 62 deaths from COVID-19 on June 30, bringing the total number of deaths from thedisease in the country in June alone to 2,377, an increase of more than 84 percent compared to May (1,290 people). 

The country so far logged 751,979 cases of COVID-19, with 5,170 deaths./.
