Jakarta (VNA) - An Indonesian court on April 9jailed the mastermind behind last year’s suicide bombings at a Jakarta bus stationfor nine years.

Kiki Muhamad Iqbal was convicted of organising the twinbombings, and mobilising others to participate in the bombings that killedthree police officers and injured 12 at Kampung Melayu bus station, accordingto the North Jakarta court.

This was the second attack linked to the Islamic State (IS) inIndonesia over the past two years. In January 2016, four IS-linked militants mounteda gun-and-bomb attack at a busy intersection outside a Starbucks cafe incentral Jakarta, killing themselves and four others.

The mastermind of that attack, Aman Abdurrahman - said to bethe ideological leader of IS loyalists in Indonesia - is also on trial.

Indonesia’s parliament is currently deliberating revisionsto anti-terrorism laws that would broaden the definition of terrorism and give policethe power to detain suspects without trial for longer.-VNA
