Indonesia looks to export LRT trains

Indonesian President Joko Widodo is optimistic that the light rail transit (LRT) trains produced by state-owned PT INKA (Persero) can be exported to other countries.

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodois optimistic that the light rail transit (LRT) trains produced by state-ownedPT INKA (Persero) can be exported to other countries.

He made the statement while inspecting the LRT stationprojects connecting four cities in the Greater Jakarta, including the capitalcity of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok and Bekasi, on June 9.

Indonesia has exported trains to Bangladesh and thePhilippines, he said, adding that he is optimistic that the LRT will also belike that.

Indonesia plans to put the Jabodebek LRT into operationby mid-2022. The LRT train was produced by PT INKA while PT Adhi Karya wastasked with the LRT construction work.

The President emphasised that Indonesia’s industry direlyrequired to gain experience in building LRT trains. This wouldcome in handy when the LRT manufactured by Indonesia is exported to othercountries.

To date, the Jabodebek LRT construction has reached 84.7percent completion. It will be tested in April 2022 and officially becomeoperational two month later.

According to PT. KAI, the operator of the Jabodebek LRT,there are six trains in each LRT series. Each seriesis capable of serving 740 passengers normally and up to 1,308 passengers in peak hours.

It is designed to have a speed of 90km per hour, whilethe maximum operating speed reaches 80km per hour./.
