Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesiaannounced that it has completed its target of establishing 20 million hectaresof ocean for conservation, two years ahead of schedule.
President Joko Widodo deliveredthe announcement in his opening speech at the fifth Our Ocean Conference (OOC) inBali on October 29 and 30.
He elaborated that, startingfrom an OOC agreement related to marine preservation, the achievement willrealise Indonesia’s vision as a global maritime axis.
The leader added that his Governmentwill take small steps and major actions on an international scale in a bid tomake the vision a reality.
The OOC2018, taking place for the first time in Asia under the theme of “Our Ocean,Our Legacy”, is focused on generatingcommitments and taking actions to maintain the sustainability of oceans. –VNA
