Indonesia, RoK agree to intensify bilateral ties

Seoul (VNA) – Indonesia and the Republic of Korea (RoK) agreed totighten their partnerships in defence and other sectors during the third jointcommittee’s meeting between the two foreign ministries in Jakarta on April 8.

At the meeting,Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and her Korean counterpart KangKyung-wha had in-depth discussions and consultations on major pending bilateralissues, as well as sought out ways to boost substantive cooperation, andcultural and people-to-people exchange.

They expressed theirhope for the continuance of mutually-beneficial cooperation in the defenceindustry, pointing out that defence collaboration is a foundation for the twocountries’ strategic partnership and trust.

The two foreignministers highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation to continuefacilitating two-way trade and voiced expectations that the two nations willstrike a deal this year on negotiations on the proposed Comprehensive EconomicPartnership Agreement (CEPA).

They also agreed tobolster collaboration in transportation, infrastructure, science, technology,forestry, and agriculture.

Indonesia, the world’sfourth most populous nation, is a key partner of the RoK in its New SouthernPolicy, which aims to improve its relations with countries located south of thepeninsula, especially India and the ASEAN. –VNA
