Hanoi (VNA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo have had a bilateral meeting with his Russiancounterpart Vladimir Putin on increased economic cooperation between the twocountries on the sidelines of the 33rd ASEAN Summit in Singapore.

The two sides discussed how to promote economic and trade links betweenIndonesia and Russia.

Widodo asked the Russian side to support Indonesia’s positive campaign on crude palm oil (CPO)export.

He said Indonesia encourages the Russian government to increase imports of Indonesianfishery products.

Indonesia also plans to promote exports oftropical fruits from Indonesia to Russia, he added.

President Widodo also expressed his view on Indonesia’s trade with economic cooperation withthe Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), saying that Indonesia intends to increasetrade with the union.

He expressed his hope that Russia, as Chair of the EAEU, can help speed up negotiationsof free trade agreement between his country and the EAEU.

According to statistics from Indonesia, bilateral trade between the two countriesincreased by 14.3 precent in 2017, hitting 2.52 billion USD.-VNA
