Indonesia sets goal to vaccinate 75 million people against COVID-19

Indonesia’s Ministry of State-owned Enterprises (BUMN) is targeting to supply non-subsidised vaccines to 75 million people within the next eight or nine months, said BUMN Minister and Chief Executive of the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and Economic Recovery (KPCPEN) Erick Thohir.

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’s Ministry ofState-owned Enterprises (BUMN) is targeting to supply non-subsidised vaccinesto 75 million people within the next eight or nine months, said BUMN Ministerand Chief Executive of the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and EconomicRecovery (KPCPEN) Erick Thohir.

The Health Ministry said medical workers will be the firstgroup to be vaccinated. Around 32 million people will be entitled to subsidizedvaccines.

The ministry will also establish cooperation with privatehospitals and clinics to implement the vaccination programme for those willingto pay for the vaccines.

The BUMN minister revealed that Indonesia will wait for another1.8 million doses of the vaccine in the next stage of vaccine shipment inJanuary 2021, and an additional 15 million of raw materials to be utilised toproduce vaccines by Bio Farma, also in January 2021.

The Indonesian government has spent nearly 45 million USD onpurchasing vaccines from China this year.

In the first phase, 1.2 million doses of vaccine arrived inIndonesia and would be used in early 2021. The next phase will see 1.8 milliondoses delivered in January 2021./.
