Jakarta (VNA) - The Sinabung volcano in Indonesia's North Sumatraprovince erupted on December 18, spewing columns of smoke and ash clouds.
According to the Sinabung volcano monitoring post, the latest eruption tookplace on 13:02 (local time) along with 303 seconds of tremors around the area.
Hot clouds were seen rising 2,500 metres to the east-southeast and 3,500 metresto the south. It was difficult to see the eruption as the volcano peak wasengulfed by thick haze.
Indonesian authorities declared the red alert around the volcano, while warningmore possible eruptions in the coming days.
The last eruption prior to the December 18 eruption took place on November 29,blasted column of volcanic ashes and hot clouds.
