Indonesia targets 10 million foreign travellers in 2015

TheIndonesian government has allocated an additional 2.2 trillion rupiahs(176 million USD) to its tourism and innovative economic sector, 75percent of which will be spent on tourism promotion in foreigncountries, with a focus on Singapore, Malaysia, China and Australia.

Earlier,Head of the Indonesian Tourism Promotion Board (BPPI) WiryantiSukamdani said the tourism industry has set its sights on attracting 20million foreign vacationers in 2019, buoyed by breakthroughs in itspolicies, such as removing visa application procedures for tourists fromAustralia, China, the Republic of Korea and Russia.

According tothe National Statistics Office (BPS), 8.52 million foreigners visitedIndonesia from January to November 2014, up 7.29 percent year-on-yearfrom the previous record of 7.94 million.

The 2014 EconomicEfficiency Report of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) saidIndonesia’s tourism sector experienced the most significant growth amongthe G20 economies.-VNA
