Jakarta (VNA) - The Indonesian Government has set a target of eliminating extreme poverty in the country within two years, according to Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar.

Speaking at a dialogue on poverty alleviation with village heads, village assistants, and the community in Wonosobo town, Central Java province, on December 17, Iskandar emphasised the government's commitment to strengthening efforts to address poverty in Indonesia.

He explained that reducing poverty is a government goal, with extreme poverty eradication being a priority under President Prabowo Subianto's administration.

Data from Statistics Indonesia shows that in 2024, Wonosobo has a poverty rate of 15.28% and an extreme poverty rate of 1.26%. This is an area that the government has given special priority in its efforts to eliminate poverty.

Earlier, on December 12, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf held a meeting with World Bank Country Director for Indonesia and Timor-Leste Carolyn Turk to discuss collaborative strategies that can be carried out to alleviate poverty.

Carolyn stated that the World Bank supports the programme empowering beneficiary families that the Ministry of Social Affairs is currently promoting.

🎃 Indonesia's National Alms Agency (Baznas) has also proposed 10 priority programmes aimed at helping the country eradicate poverty in the coming year. These programmes focus on essential areas such as empowerment in the fields of economy, education, healthcare, and technology./.
