Indonesia to build 150,000 low-emission houses by 2029

Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development by targeting 10,000 low-emission homes by 2025, toward 150,000 homes by 2029.

Jakarta (VNA) ꦫ- In support of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita initiative for a green economy, PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development by targeting 10,000 low-emission homes by 2025, toward 150,000 homes by 2029.

As part of these efforts, BTN is actively connecting SME producers of environmentally friendly materials with housing developer partners. This initiative is also part of BTN’s roadmap toward constructing 150,000 low-emission housing units by 2029. BTN also aims for at least 15% use of environmentally friendly materials in each low-emission housing unit starting in 2025.
BTN Director of Risk Management Setiyo Wibowo emphasised that climate change is a global reality whose impacts are already being felt in Indonesia. Setiyo said this is BTN's effort to support President Prabowo Subianto's vision of achieving a green economy, including in the housing sector. This year, the country hopes to have 10,000 low-emission homes, which will serve as a stepping stone for us to work together for the good of the planet.
Meanwhile, by the end of 2024, BTN had partnered with eight developers who have begun implementing 10% environmentally friendly materials in the construction of 1,367 housing units in 2024. Setiyo noted that if the target of 150,000 low-emission housing units is achieved in 2029, it will result in a reduction of over 2.2 million kilogrammes of plastic waste, equivalent to 1.3 billion packets of instant noodles. Additionally, there will be a reduction of 2,425 tonness of carbon emissions, equivalent to planting 110,000 trees./.
