Jakarta (VNA) - The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) on April 3 announcedthat it has approved a plan to import eggs from Indonesia to meet the national demand.

With the addition of Indonesia, thenumber of countries and regions accredited to export chicken eggs to Singaporehas increased to 18, up from 12 in 2019, the agency reported.

Singaporean Minister of Sustainability and EnvironmentGrace Fu said that being open and adaptable to new food sources such as eggsfrom Indonesia is also a step towards building Singapore’s food resilience.

While Singapore continues to strengthenits food security, it recognises that no country can be spared fromuncertainties in the global food supply, she added.

She cited the worldwide egg shortage due to avian flu, supply chain issues and the rising costs ofchicken feed as an example.

Singaporeans should be mindful ofpotential disruptions, and to be flexible with food and ingredient choices and beadaptable to new food sources, Grace Fu noted.

Imports currentl🎀y account for about 70%of Singapore’s egg supply. The SFA said in December that the upcoming development of Singapore’s fourth egg farm willfurther strengthen the resilience of the country’s local egg supply. Once fullyoperational, Sing💦apore’s local egg farms will meet about 50% of the country’s demand./.
