Indonesia to start moving state apparatus to new capital in 2023

Part of ministries, institutions, and central agencies of Indonesia is set to move to the country’s new capital in East Kalimantan province starting in 2023, an official has said.

Jakarta (VNA) – Part of ministries,institutions, and central agencies of Indonesia is set to move to the country’snew capital in East Kalimantan province starting in 2023, an official has said.

The Indonesian Ministry of Administrative andBureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB) targets that the state civil apparatus inministries, institutions, and central agencies will have gradually been movedto the new capital by the end of 2023 so that the government machinery willbegin operating there in 2024, Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said on the PAN-RB’sofficial Youtube channel on June 17.

The PAN-RB has prepared a roadmap for theoperation, and it is only waiting for the official capital relocation decision,he noted.

In 2019, Indonesian President Joko Widodoselected North Penajam Paser district in East Kalimantan as the locationfor the new capital. However, construction projects for the new capital havebeen delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The National Development Planning Agency ofIndonesia estimated that the capital relocation will cost about 486 trillion Rp(33.7 billion USD), including 265.2 trillion Rp to be mobilised via public -private partnership, 127.3 trillion Rp from the private sector’s special funds,and 93.5 trillion Rp from the state budget./.
