In a statement issued on December 24, Trenggono said that the meeting discussed topics related to blue carbon, aquaculture, and fishing gear. The collaboration encompasses initiatives in the blue economy, conservation, and the development of modern and sustainable fishing vessels, and marine resources and fisheries surveillance vessels, the Indonesian official said. He emphasised the need for joint management of conservation areas, noting their critical role in carbon emission absorption and addressing climate change.
Through the UK’s Blue Planet Fund is playing a significant role in supporting sustainable conservation and fisheries resource management in Indonesia, Trenggono said, adding that this is an important foundation for the two countries to jointly build blue, comprehensive and sustainable development solutions. The discussions also included a strategic programme initiated by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to support the maritime and fisheries sectors.
For his part, Jermey stressed that enhanced cooperation in the maritime and fisheries sectors can help achieve Indonesia's priority programmes. He said the two sides are discussing ways to strengthen cooperation in these three areas to support the President's vision, adding that there remains great potential for cooperation between the two countries./.
