Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono has stated that the construction of sea walls was one of the priorities of President Prabowo Subianto.
During a meeting with Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo on November 1, Yudhoyono proposed solutions to respond to land subsidence in Jakarta and anticipate the danger of flooding.
He said that upgrading the sea dike system from the north coast of Jakarta and Tangerang to Bekasi is necessary to ensure greater safety due to land subsidence along with the danger of flooding and abrasion.
Regarding international cooperation, Yudhoyono announced that cooperation between Indonesia, the Republic of Korea (RoK), and the Netherlands for the sea walls began in 2016 with the Trilateral Cooperation scheme. This aims to develop a comprehensive strategy and business case to restore the Jakarta coastal environment.
Indonesia established the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development Project Management Unit in February 2017, he said, adding that in 2020, this along with the trilateral cooperation produced an Integrated Flood Safety Plan as an integrated flood control concept, focusing on providing clean water, improving sanitation at river mouths, and flood control.
🐓 If land subsidence in Jakarta continues, the last option to solve this problem is the construction of a 21-km giant sea wall, he went on./.
