Indonesia urges universities to uphold local identity

The Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) has encouraged universities to develop based on the characteristics and potential of each locality, instead of applying policies uniformly.

Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) has encouraged universities to develop based on the characteristics and potential of each locality, instead of applying policies uniformly.

♊ In a recent press release, Director General of Higher Education at Kemdiktisaintek Khairul Munadi said the ministry no longer advocates pushing universities to apply policies mechanically. Instead, it encourages these educational institutions to strengthen the four pillars of higher education, and proactively adapt to the conditions, challenges and strengths of each region.

Khairul emphasised that while current programmes are effective, not all universities have the capacity to fully implement every component, therefore they are encouraged to perform more flexible learning activities.
He showed his hope that universities will not be detached from societal realities, but instead be present for the community, driving change and offering solutions to problems. According to Khairul, the Indonesian government continues to enhance the status of public universities as public service units, while improving the governance and financial management in a more flexible and transparent manner, thus improving the quality and competitiveness of higher education nationwide./.
