Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia has agreed to gradually reduce coal fuelat the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) inGlasgow, the UK.

Head of the Indonesian delegation to COP 26 Laksmi Dwanthitold the conference that her country welcomes the Glasgow Climate Pact onstepping up efforts to phase down coal use and inefficient fossil fuelsubsidies.

Regarding this issue, Coordinating Minister for MaritimeAffairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said that Indonesia could stopusing coal in 2035 if the country receives financial support from power countries.

The funding is necessary to build a renewable energy powerplant to replace a steam power plant that uses coal, he added.

Indonesia has committed to following the Paris Agreement, with atarget to cut emissions by 29 percent unconditionally by 2030. The country alsoadopted the Indonesia Long-Term Strategy for Low Carbon and Climate Resilienceuntil 2050, as well as a detailed roadmap to achieve the goal of net-zeroemission in 2060 or sooner./.
