Jakarta (VNA) – The Sepingganairport of Balikpapan in Indonesia’s East Kalimantan island has been named thesecond best in service in the world for those with annual handling capacity of5 million to 15 million passengers.
The airport received the token of appreciationAirport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards in a global summit which was recently heldby the Airports Council International - the Montreal, Canada-based airportrating agency.
The summit was participated in by 127 airportauthorities and operators all over the world in Halifax, Canada.
Other Indonesian airports receiving the awardsinclude I Gusti Ngurah Rai international airport of Denpasar, Bali, andSurabaya's Djuanda airport - all with handling capacity of 15 million to 25million passengers and under the state airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I.
Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I Sepinggan FaridIndra Nugraha said currently Sepinggan airport has an annual handling capacityof 10 million passengers and the port management is committed to continuing toseek improvement in the airport service. The airport was built by the BBM oil company ofthe Dutch colonial administration in 1925.
