Indonesian President: economic growth to be higher than expected

Jakarta (VNA) –Indonesian President Joko Widodo has said Indonesia will prove that itseconomic growth for 2021 will be higher than forecasts given by international economic andfinancial bodies.

Addressing the Indonesia EconomyOutlook Forum on February 25, Widodo said the InternationalMonetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and Organisation for Economic Cooperation andDevelopment (OECD) have forecast that Indonesia’s economy will grow by about 4-5percent this year.

The key to the nation’s economic recovery lies in thecapability of all sides to handle the pandemic, the President noted.

He believed that Indonesia's economic recovery would hingelargely on the disciplined application of health protocols, including wearingface mask, maintaining physical distance, and washing hands, as well as theimplementation of the 3T policy of testing, tracing, and treatment.

According to him, Indonesiais among the leading countries in Asia to be conducting COVID-19 vaccination. The government has allotted about 372 trillion rupiah (26.5 billion USD) fromthe State budget to accelerate national economic recovery.
