Jakarta (VNA)ꦛ – Mount Ibu, a volcano in eastern Indonesia erupted on May 15, spewing an ash tower of 5km.

This is one of the biggest eruptions of Mount Ibu so far this year. No damage or casualties have been reported in this volcanic eruption. However, images posted on social networks showed an ash tower covering the sky of Halmahera island in North Maluku province.
According to the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of Indonesia, there is a dense gray and black ash tower which is tilted towards the west. The centre urged residents and tourists to stay away from the area within a 5 km radius of the Ibu crater. People living nearby were advised to wear masks and glasses when going out to avoid falling volcanic ash. Previously, on May 13, Mount Ibu also erupted and created an ash column 5 km high.
Last week, authorities raised the alert level to 3 of a four-tier system for Ibu volcano. Ibu is one of Indonesia's most active volcanos, erupting more than 21,000 times last year, with an average of 58 eruptions per day. Indonesia, a vast archipelago nation, experiences frequent seismic and volcanic activity due to its position on the Pacific "Ring of Fire"./.
