Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Vietnam Union ofFriendship Organisations (VUFO) Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga presented theinsignia “For Peace, Friendship among Nations” to UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam Caitlin Wiesen in Hanoi on August 24.
Speaking at the event, Nga congratulated Wiesen on fulfilling missionduring her tenure in Vietnam and expressed deep thanks to her contributionsto Vietnam on its way to sustainable development.
She emphasised that over the past 45 years since Vietnam’s entryto the United Nations (UN), the UN and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) inparticular have made important contributions to Vietnam’s socio-economic developmentand global integration, especially in poverty reduction, fulfillment of MillennialDevelopment Goals and Sustainable Development Goals, and response to globalchallenges such as climate change and COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the helm of Wiesen, UNDP worked closely with Vietnameseagencies and partners to successfully carry out the Country Programme2017-2021, build another for 2022-2026 in which strategicorientations for development cooperation between UNDP and Vietnamese agencieswere laid out.
🗹 Wiesen also directed UNDP to assist Vietnam in its role as ASEANChair 2020 and non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021,promoted Vietnam’s participation in the UN peacekeeping mission, womenempowerment, awareness-raising campaigns about the UN and Vietnam's significant contributions to the UN work among Vietnameseyouths.

Nga expressed her gratitude for Wiesen’s contributions to Vietnam’sCOVID-19 response and recovery via strengthening medical system, recoveringgreen economy, social welfare and digital transformation.
She wished that UNDP would continue supporting Vietnam and contributing to maintaining peace and sustainable development in theworld.
Wiesen expressed her belief that ties between UNDP and Vietnam,and between UNDP and VUFO will thrive in the future.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) are committed to taking joint actions to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs) through increasingly involving the private sector.
Deputy Defence Minister Hoang Xuan Chien called for more support from the UN Development Programme (UNDP) for Vietnam in overcoming post-war bombs, mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) consequences and UN peacekeeping, during a meeting with Kanni Wignaraja, UN Assistant Secretary General, Deputy Regional Director and Director for the Asia-Pacific at UNDP, in Hanoi on July 28.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will help build an additional 100 flood-resistant houses for poor households in the north-central coastal province of Thanh Hoa in the coming time, UN Assistant Secretary General and UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Kanni Wignaraja has said.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
