Hanoi(VNS/VNA) - A festival featuring food from all over the world will beheld in Hanoi on December 8.
The International FoodFestival is an annual cultural and charity fundraising event hosted by theService Department for Diplomatic Corps, featuring around 120 pavilionsrepresenting embassies, foreign relations departments, non-governmental organisationsand foreign cultural centres in Vietnam.
The event is sponsoredby Ambassador Nguyen Nguyet Nga, spouse of Deputy Prime Minister and Ministerof Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh.
According to theorganisers, the 2019 International Food Festival aimed to enhance culturalexchanges and mutual understanding among countries.
It wouldalso introduce Vietnam to international friends via embassies and foreigncultural centres, and help local enterprises and provinces to promotetheir brands and products.
The festival also has ahumanitarian purpose with the donations and contributionsfrom participating organisations and individuals and proceeds to bedonated to charitable activities implemented by the Ministry of ForeignAffairs.
Last year the festivalraised nearly 2.6 billion VND (112,000 USD), which was donatedto handicapped people, orphans and the poor.
In recent years, theorganisers have donated funds for the construction of Binh ThuatKindergarten in the northern province of Yen Bai, a new bridge in the southernprovince of Long An and 10 scholarships for students in the southernprovince of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, to name but a few.
The highlight ofthe event will be a ceremony to present giftsto children at the National Institute of Hematology and BloodTransfusion, the Vietnam Association for Victims of AgentOrange/Dioxin, disadvantaged women from Sin Suoi Ho Commune in the northernprovince of Lai Chau, and 10 wheelchairs for children suffering fromcerebral palsy.
Visitors can also enjoymusical performances, participate in a cooking contest and purchasetraditional handicrafts from many countries./.
