Interpol to help Vietnam chase fugitives

Interpol will help Vietnam hunt fugitive criminals around the world and enhance information sharing with the country, the organisation’s Secretary General Jurgen Stock told President Tran Dai Quang.

Hanoi (VNA) – Interpol will help Vietnamhunt fugitive criminals around the world and enhance information sharing withthe country, the organisation’s Secretary General Jurgen Stock told PresidentTran Dai Quang at a meeting in Hanoi on July 6.

Jurgen Stock acknowledged theclose cooperation between Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and relevantdepartments under the Interpol Secretariat in exchanging information on crimeprevention and fighting, as well as in implementing Interpol programmes in theAsia-Pacific region.

He also appreciated Vietnam’s seconded officers atInterpol Secretariat in Lyon, France and its Singapore-based Interpol GlobalComplex.

Close cooperation between Interpol and its membernations is important to the fight against crime amidst increasing threats fromterrorism, non-traditional security risks and organised crimes, Stock said.

President Tran Dai Quang expressed his delightat the fruitful cooperation between Vietnam’s Public Security Ministry andInterpol in the fight against transnational crimes and highly appreciated theeffective support the Interpol General Secretariat has provided for theMinistry over the past years. 

The President called on Interpol leaders andVietnam’s Ministry of Public Security to maintain contacts via delegationexchanges and annual meetings of the General Assembly of Interpol.

He also asked the organisation to give priorityto helping Vietnam train law enforcement officers and create favourableconditions for Vietnamese officers to work at the Interpol Secretariat.-VNA
