IPU 136 ends with Dhaka Declaration calling to end inequality
The 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly has wrapped up in the capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka with the Dhaka Declaration calling to end inequality around the world.

New Delhi(VNA) – The 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly has wrapped up inthe capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka with the Dhaka Declaration calling to endinequality around the world.
The assembly, whichbegan on April 1, centered its debates on the theme “Redressing inequalities:Delivering on dignity and well-being for all”.
The declaration highlighteda wide range of measures that parliaments should consider to reduceinequalities at the national and international levels.
It proposes theparliament strengthen legal frameworks, particularly, by enacting laws andregulations to facilitate the participation of all citizens, including thevulnerable and marginalised groups.
The Dhaka declarationpromotes making the economy work for all which can be achieved by pursuingeconomic and social policies that protect the most vulnerable, particularlyinvesting in public goods such as health care, transport and education for thebenefit of all citizens; and by incentivizing small and medium enterprises,including family-owned and cooperative enterprises.
The issues of ensuringlabour rights and improving international cooperation are also included in thedeclaration.
The IPU 136 approvedresolution on “The role of parliament in respecting the principle ofnon-intervention in the internal affairs of States” submitted by the StandingCommittee on Peace and International Security.
The resolution on“Promoting enhanced international cooperation on the Sustainable DevelopmentGoals, in particular on the financial inclusion of women as a driver ofdevelopment” by the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, Finance andTrade and the emergency item on “Urgent international action to save millionsof people from famine and drought in parts of Africa and Yemen” were alsopassed.
IPU Secretary GeneralMartin Chungong was voted for the second term of office between 2018 and 2022.
This year, the IPU 136was attended by 1,500 delegates from 131 countries and territories, includingVietnam.-VNA
