Japan Coast Guard ship starts Vietnam visit

Da Nang (VNA) – Japan Coast Guard Training Vessel, the Kojima, with 80officers and crew members on board, docked at Tien Sa Port, the central coastalcity of Da Nang on July 24 to begin a five-day visit to Vietnam.

The delegation, led by Colonel Tonozaki Hironobu, was welcomed by leaders ofthe municipal Department of External Affairs, the High Command of the VietnamCoast Guard, the High Command of the Vietnam Coast Guard Zone 2, the HighCommand of the Da Nang Border Guard, and the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam.

During their stay, they will pay a courtesy call to leaders of the municipalPeople’s Committee, and visit the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Region IIand the High Command of the Vietnam Coast Guard Zone 2 in Ky Ha district, QuangNam province.

As per the plan, the Japanese guests will join a sport exchange event, andvisit famous tourist attractions in Da Nang city. Also, they will performKendo, a traditional Japanese martial art, and Yosakoi dance at theVietnam-Japan cultural exchange festival 2018.

The Japanese training ship’s visit aims to enhance cooperation, friendship andmutual understanding between coast guard forces of both sides, contributing topromoting the sound friendship between the two countries.

The Kojima is 115 metres in length and 14 metres in width. This is the fifthtime a Japan Coast Guard ship has visited Da Nang city.

Vietnam and Japan are active members of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on CombatingPiracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAPP).

Last year, during his official visit to Japan, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phucand his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe highlighted the commitment tostrengthen maritime security and safety cooperation such as search and rescueand anti-piracy measures, including through information exchange between coastguard agencies of both countries and cooperation under the ReCAPP framework.-VNA
